Be an Artist Program - Darden Smith
The
Be an Artist Program, led by Darden Smith, goes into the classroom to teach students about art and the creative process, emphasizing that everyone is an artist and everyone is creative through three main themes: attention, intention, and loving what you do. To show students they are all truly artists, Darden leads them, as a group, in writing a song. Every student is encouraged to contribute. Darden acts as a guide and editor while letting the students be the authors.
Capital Area Dental Foundation
The
Capital Area Dental Foundation promotes dental health through education and prevention. As the leaders on access to dental care issues, they identify and support the most effective solutions for the community and actively deliver direct service through Capital Area Dental Society members and affiliates.
Center Stage Texas
Center Stage Texas provides a gathering place where kids from diverse backgrounds can bring his or her own perspective and sensibilities to the creative process. I Live Here, I Give Here
I Live Here, I Give Here inspires Austinites to give their money as generously as they give their time. They connect individuals with nonprofits and spotlight specific needs in Austin every month to inform the local community on how it can help.
Knowbility
Knowbility ensures barrier-free I.T.—supporting the independence of people with disabilities by promoting the use and improving the availability of accessible information technology. Access to web-based information and activities has never been more important. Knowbility works hard every day to improve technology access for all.
LEAP
The
Leadership Enrichment Arts Program provides African-American students with a chance to experience a variety of art, cultural, and educational programs that they might otherwise not have access to or be interested in. They use the arts to build self-esteem, increase sensitivity to other cultures, and motivate youth to look seriously at their lives.
Mainspring School
Mainspring School is an early childhood, family-centered community where children enjoy learning and become self-assured and socially competent in order to excel in school and in life.
Marywood Children and Family Services
Marywood provides shelter and support to children, while seeking to build nurturing families for a lifetime. The organization has adapted and expanded services to respond to the needs of the young women and children it serves by connecting pregnant and parenting women with resources, creating permanency through adoption and providing protection through foster homes.
Odyssey School
Odyssey School is a private institution that enables students with learning differences to experience academic success. Since 1998 Odyssey has served elementary and middle school students. In 2006 the institution became the first private high school in central Texas dedicated solely to students with learning differences and in 2009 they proudly conferred diplomas on their first class of graduating seniors.
Resolana
Resolana is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides holistic, gender-sensitive, rehabilitative programming for incarcerated women. The organization builds a safe and challenging learning community behind the walls of the criminal justice system, where women can use their time in custody to acquire the skills, tools, and resources for a positive reintegration into the lives of their families and communities.
SIMS Foundation
The
SIMS Foundation provides access to and financial support for mental health and addiction recovery services for Austin-area musicians and their families. SIMS was founded in 1995 by the friends and family of Sims Ellison, a talented young Austin musician, after his battle with depression ended in suicide.
Westcave Preserve
The
Westcave Preserve is dedicated to sustaining its land as a unique ecological treasure and offers it as a scientific and educational resource to the community at large. They provide a variety of programs for children and adults with the goal of inspiring greater environmental conservation and awareness. The preserve seeks creative solutions and strives to build a community of caring neighbors with the shared goal of ensuring that Westcave's ecological diversity and exceptional beauty remain intact for future generations
